Mark Cornish – Owner/Director & Senior Physiotherapist. MISCP

In 2019, Clinic Director and Senior Physiotherapist Mark returned to MDC Physiotherapy in a clinical capacity having previously worked in elite professional football in the UK since 2016. During his time in professional football Mark worked as the Head Physiotherapist at Crewe Alexandra FC and enjoyed successful spells as Head of Academy Physiotherapy at Swansea City FC and as the Head Academy Physiotherapist with Accrington Stanley FC. Prior to moving to the UK, Mark experienced successful spells as the Head Physiotherapist with the Laois Senior Football Team allowing him gain vast experience and knowledge working with sporting environments, assessing, diagnosing and treating complex sports injuries. Mark currently works providing physiotherapy services with the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).

To add to his experience and expertise, Mark successfully completed a MSc in Sports & Exercise Medicine at University College Cork between 2015 – 2017.

Mark, a Kildare native, graduated from the University of Bradford, England with a BSC Hons Degree in Physiotherapy in 2011 achieving First Class honours and immediately set about establishing a local client base through work with sports teams, voluntary work with the Muiriosa Foundation, providing care for patients with intellectual disabilities and through private clients.

In April 2012, Mark’s ambition saw the opening MDC Physiotherapy Clinic in the centre of Kildare Town and today boasts an extensive client base ranging from professional athletes and intercounty footballers through to local clients leading more sedentary lifestyles.

Mark also holds a Higher National Diploma in Leisure Management and is an American Council of Exercise (A.C.E) accredited personal trainer, allowing Mark to produce detailed personalised rehabilitation programmes for clients of all levels. 

As a keen sportsman Mark has had the privilege of being part of the Kildare Junior Football panel in 2012 while also playing a key role in Monasterevan GFC’s Kildare & Leinster Intermediate Championship success in the same year.

Lead Physiotherapist with the Laois GAA Senior Football Team. Sean Gaffney obtained his BSc. (Hons) Degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Bradford in England and graduated in 2011. During his undergraduate study, Sean’s work placements allowed him to gain experience in a variety of areas within his role as a physiotherapist, allowing him to develop an excellent skill set when treating conditions of a musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological nature to name but a few. Sean is dedicated to continually up skilling and adhering to his continual professional development.

With a strong emphasis on manual therapy and a hands on approach Sean’s main areas of interest include sports injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, pre and post surgical rehabilitation and injury prevention through prehabilitation. His techniques have seen him develop an excellent reputation and achieve results with an established client base in the Cavan area.

As a result of his ability, growing reputation and eagerness to learn Sean had the privilege of working with the Leinster Rugby team for the 2012/2013 season, culminating in the double success of winning the Amlin Challenge Cup and the Rabodirect Pro 12 trophy. The experience of working with one of the top club teams in Europe is something he hopes will help him fit in with the exceptionally high standards of care already established at MDC Physiotherapy.

Out of the clinic, Sean is a keen GAA man. As a native of Cavan, he was privileged to be a member of the Cavan Senior Football panel in 2012 and had the honour of captaining his club Kill Shamrocks to Junior Championship success in 2013.

Eoghan Mealey – Physiotherapist

Eoghan Mealey obtained an MSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of Limerick in 2019. His clinical placements exposed him to a wide variety of patient populations with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions and allowed him to implement effective individual and class-based exercise
interventions. Additionally, he worked with MS Ireland on the implementation of exercise programmes for Multiple Sclerosis populations in a community setting. A strong emphasis on exercise-based interventions coupled with manual therapy has grown from his undergraduate studies in the Institute of Technology Carlow, where he graduated in 2014 with BSc. (Hons) in Sport Science. Clinical placement as part of his undergraduate studies took him to the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry where he worked in the biomechanics lab on the groin and ACL return to performance pathways. Additional areas of interest include injury prevention, sports injury and surgical rehabilitation and rehabilitation in general musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. Eoghan has a strong belief in using the latest in scientific evidence in his practice and has a commitment to continuinal professional development to remain up to date with all treatment modalities available.
The Kilkenny man is an enthusiastic sports man, currently playing Hurling with Erin’s Own, Castlecomer. Eoghan represented Kilkenny at underage level as a goalkeeper between 2010 and 2012, while he represents Erin’s Own in a variety of positions winning a Junior A championship in 2019.

Katie joined us as our new receptionist at MDC Physiotherapy in September 2019. She currently has 4 years’ experience of working in an office environment and is highly skilled in offering secretarial and administrative support. Katie is a keen GAA follower who has played the game since age 14. Katie continues to play and is an integral part of the Kilcullen Senior Ladies team who has proven herself both on and off the field. In most recent roles Katie has been part of the successful Kildare Minor Ladies management
team who in 2018 won the Leinster and All Ireland B Championship and then subsequently reached the Leinster A final in 2019. In the role of players liaison officer Katie has shown great organisational skills and has demonstrated her excellent communication skills, acting as a go between for players, management and in dealings with the Kildare County Board. We are delighted to have Katie on board at MDC Physiotherapy and her bubbly personality sets a nice tone with our clients from initial contact.

Mark, the owner of Embrace Fitness has over a decade of coaching experience in Fitness/Health/Sport. Through continuous education Mark has amassed many qualifications over the years including;

Physical Fitness and Conditioning for Sport Specialist, Setanta College, L.I.T, Thurles.

Through this theory coupled with a vast practical coaching experience over the years Mark has refined a smart, time efficient and client orientated system of training. Mark and Embrace Fitness are on a mission to help people of all fitness levels to embrace physical movement, strength, nutrition and a healthy mind. Mark offers his services on many fronts: Personal Training, S&C, Nutrition and Youth Fitness. Mark is also a keen sportsman and represented Kildare at senior inter-county level for 6 years and has a passion for continuous self development in all areas of life.

Edel is a Holistic Therapist for 18 years. Since qualifying as an acupuncturist in 2011 Chinese medicine has become her passion, treating a wide range of ailments. She includes cupping, Gua Sha and massage in her treatments, treating all layers until getting to the root cause.

While Acupuncture is used for an enormous amount of both acute and chronic conditions her main treatments include; stress, anxiety, exhaustion, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, depression, sciatica, sinusitis, fertility issues and pre-menstrual tension. Edel is a member of ACI (Acupuncture Council of Ireland) which is approved by Health Insurers Aviva, Bupa and VHI.

Edel travelled in Asia and attended courses in India (Yoga, Ayrvedic massage), China (Acupuncture)and Japan (Cupping and Gua Sha). Edel is a registered I.T.E.C Teacher of Holistic massage and Reflexology. She is also a registered Hatha yoga teacher with 15 years experience. She treats her clients with empathy, compassion and intuition. She is currently involved with Newbridge cancer group where she volunteers her services and does weekly meditation and yoga with the group as well as therapies.

Her list of treatments include: Acupuncture, Cupping, Gua Sha, Massage, Reflexology and Reiki.

Laurann O’Reilly – Personal Nutrition & Health

Laurann has an honours BSc. Degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Nottingham, a Masters in Public Health Nutrition from University College Dublin, is an Associate Nutritionist with the Nutrition Society London, a professional member of the Celiac Society Ireland, is registered with the Institute of Public Health Ireland and fully insured.

Having worked in UK and Ireland she uses her knowledge and skills in providing personalised diet plans for healthy eating, weight loss or gain and performance nutrition. Laurann also deals with digestive health issues through blood based food intolerance testing and provides full nutritional support and guidance with all services.
