Maftei ‘Jonny’ completed a BSc in Athletic Therapy & Training at Dublin City University (DCU) in 2024. Following graduation, Maftei began working in both private practice and team-based settings.
Maftei has experience across a variety of environments, including private practice, musculoskeletal outpatient clinics, and competitive team settings, gaining strong assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation skills in managing a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries.

Maftei has a keen interest in sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation and has worked with the Kildare Senior Hurlers during their Joe McDonagh Cup triumph and with Na Fianna Senior Hurlers throughout the past season. During his college placements, he also gained valuable experience working with teams such as Bohemians FC, DCU Fitzgibbon Cup team, and DCU Freshers Footballers.

In addition to his  clinical work, Maftei has  extensive coaching experience. For the past eight years, he has served as Assistant Coach for the Men’s Senior and U22 National Volleyball squads, representing Ireland in European Championship qualifiers.
